The Equality Act 2006 creates a duty on public authorities to:
- *promote equality of opportunity between women and men ('the gender duty'), and
- *prohibit sex discrimination and harassment in the exercise of public functions.
The Department has produced a Gender Equality Scheme (GES) (Word, 28kB) or (PDF version) which sets out our plans to promote equalities of women and men.
The GES is a part of the council-wide Multi Equalities Scheme (PDF, 66kB). Download the Gender Equality Targets (Word, 42kB) or (PDF version) which is supplementary to the Mainstreaming Equalities Action Plan.
