Race Equality

Race Equality Policy

Race equality is an important priority for education and all Children and Families services.

Race, diversity, racism, xenophobia and international relations are never far from the centre of public life. From the MacPherson report into the death of Stephen Lawrence and the resulting Race Relations Amendment Act, 2000, through to the emergence of Islamophobia and a sharp rise in the ethnic minority population of Edinburgh, issues of racism and cultural diversity are as alive and demanding as ever.

These web pages aim to help you implement your duties under the legislation and the authority's Race Equality Policy. As the section develops, further pages will aim to help staff understand why race equality is important for children and young people in Edinburgh, and how a good knowledge of diverse cultures can help develop good global citizens.
