We have just launched our campaign to recruit carers for children over the age of five. Some of the children may be siblings and we would like to keep them together, others may have learning difficulties or disabilities. If you are interested in caring for Edinburgh's children please have a look at our care options information to find the type of caring that would suit you, or call 0800 174 833.
This December we are focussing our recruitment on carers who can provide high quality specialist care for some of Edinburgh's most vulnerable children. These children are aged 8 to 14 and have a range of emotional and behavioural difficulties. If you have childcare experience, patience, resilience and a sense of humour this could be just the job for you.
For this challenging but rewarding role you will receive a £19,386 allowance and expenses. You will also have support and training from the New Opportunities team.
We have lots more information on the new opportunities care scheme, or call 0800 174 833.
On October 1st we launch our campaign to recruit full-time, part-time and specialist foster carers to care for children with complex disabilities and medical needs. We also need befrienders to spend time with children regularly to help build their confidence and independence and provide an opportunity to have fun! Please see the fostering page for more information on becoming a carer.
In August 2009 we launch our campaign appealing for black and minority ethnic carers. Children and carers in Edinburgh come from a wide range of different ethnic, religious, cultural and language backgrounds and we would like to recruit carers who can help meet the needs of children who share these backgrounds. Please see fostering for more information on becoming a carer.
This month we are appealing for people to come forward who could care for young people aged 12-16. For more information see the fostering options section - both Fostering and New Opportunities Foster Care.
In April 2009 we appealed for more permanent adoptive/foster parents to come forward. For more information see the Adoption Campaign press release (Word).
At the first screening of our Vulnerable Babies training DVD, we appealed for carers to come forward to look after the growing number of babies being taken into care as a result of their mother's substance abuse during pregnancy. For more information, see the press release.
In March 2009 we appealed for more foster carers for around 50 children in Edinburgh in need of a placement. For more information see the links below:
If you're interested in taking the next step, get in touch by calling 0800 174 833 or filling in our online form.

Foster Care Fortnight was between 12th and 25th May and we coincided a refresh of our campaign materials with this. Although we needed carers to come forward for all schemes of care, we focussed on foster carers and as well as press, radio, posters and flyers, we held a successful open day where anyone interested in foster care could talk to staff and current carers.
