Consultative Committee with Parents

In line with City of Edinburgh's commitment to forging close partnerships with parents, an Education Consultative Committee with Parents (CCWP) was formed in 1996.

Meetings are held on a 6-weekly cycle, and representatives meet with the Executive Member for Youth & Education and the Director of Children and Families. Current practices and future Children and Families policies are discussed and the CCWP is consulted on major items including the Revenue Budget and Session Dates.

For each of the 5 Neighbourhoods, there are 2 secondary representatives and 6 primary cluster representatives (5 for the North West Area). There are also 3 special school representatives together with a representative from the Special Education Needs Forum and the Childcare Strategy Group. There are 3 Head Teacher representatives and 2 nursery reps.

Items discussed, reports and presentations have covered a wide range of topics. Some of these have included Public Private Partnerships, School Meals and Session Dates.

Meetings are held on a Tuesday evening at the City Chambers. Coffee and sandwiches are available from 6.00pm and meetings commence at 6.30pm.

The CCWP has made an important contribution to improving communications across the Children and Families service.

This Committee consists of school board representatives: 28 for secondary and primary schools, 5 for special schools, along with 2 nursery, a representative from the Childcare Strategy Group, 1 Special Education Needs Forum, and 3 Head Teacher representatives. These members meet regularly with the Executive Member for Children and Families, Director of Children and Families and opposition spokespersons to discuss current practices and future policies.
