We want to build stronger links between our services and the communities they serve. To achieve this we need to work more closely with you, to plan together and develop ideas that can bring real benefit to more people. In this section you will find details of current and recent consultations, with links to background papers and information about how you can get involved in the discussions. Some of the consultations must be carried out in line with statutory requirements, others are more informal and will offer more flexibility but in all cases, your views will be welcomed.

PROPOSAL FOR THE RELOCATION OF TYNECASTLE NURSERY SCHOOL

The Council Executive has consulted on the long term options for the delivery of early years and child care services in the Tynecastle Area. This responds to a further approach made by Heart of Midlothian Football Club to purchase both the land currently occupied by Tynecastle Nursery School and Tynecastle High School .

The most recent consultation (which ended on the 1st March, 2007) sought comments on a site for an Integrated Early Years Centre, which would provide the long term solution for Tynecastle Nursery School.

A Report will be considered by the Council Executive on the 27th March, 2007 on the outcome of the consultation exercise – see Council Report 27th March 07.

A public meeting was held at Tynecastle High School so that members of the public could express their views. Appendix 1 contains the minutes of this meeting.

Over 30 comments were received thought the consultation process and these are summarised in Appendix 3. Appendix 2 contains the minutes of a meeting held at Gorgie Dalry Community Association to consider the proposals.

PROPOSAL FOR PORTOBELLO SCHOOLS

The Council has recently consulted on proposals to replace Portobello High School and St John’s Primary School . A report on the outcome of the consultation was considered by the Council on 21 December 2006. The Council Decision (available under Papers on the right) sets out the recommendations made on site options for the two schools.
