About the unit

The Sports & Outdoor Education Unit, part of the Children & Families Department of the City of Edinburgh Council, has a major input to Sports, Outdoor Education and Physical Education for young people via Curricular, Extra Curricular and Community Learning and Development. Active Schools

The Active Schools Edinburgh programme is a joint initiative between City of Edinburgh Council and sportscotland as part of the Healthy Living Campaign.

Outdoor Education Centres

Benmore provides fully catered and serviced outdoor education / adventurous activity weeks or weekends for groups of up to 100 people.

Lagganlia (pictured) provides custom made outdoor education courses for schools, community groups and other users.

Sports Development

Football - A programme of activities, in partnership with the Scottish Football Association, including coaching, midnight leagues, 4v4 and Soccer Sevens.

Rugby - There are many programmes running across the city that aim to introduce the sport to new players, help existing players improve their skills and create a pathway for the most talented to maximise their potential.

Cycling - Cycling means so many different things to a diverse range of people. Regardless of who you are, where you cycle, or what bike you ride, cycling can play a significant part of following a healthy lifestyle.
