Adventure Edinburgh

What is Adventure Edinburgh?

Adventure Edinburgh aims to give young people the opportunity to develop skills and interests in walking, climbing and mountain biking. Through this participants are encouraged to become self-sufficient in their chosen activity.

Adventure Edinburgh is closely aligned with the four capacities promoted through the Curriculum of Excellence, namely to encourage young people to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.

The project was set up by the City of Edinburgh Council and is supported by The Big Lottery Fund.

Who Is It For?

Adventure Edinburgh is for you if you are aged 12 to 16 years and live in Edinburgh. You should have a genuine interest in learning more about your chosen activity and must demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the project.

What Do You Do?

Adventure Edinburgh participants get opportunities to go walking, climbing and mountain biking all over Scotland.

Sessions have included trail building, lead climbing outdoor and indoor, winter walking and climbing skills, visits to bmx/skate parks, mountain bike expeditions, workshops on techniques and skills, bouldering, first aid, bike maintenance, route planning, navigation skills, expedition planning and social events.

You are encouraged to develop your technical, organisational, communication and interpersonal skills in order to become self-sufficient in your chosen activity.

When Does It Run?

Most sessions are on weekends during term time. There are also occasional weekday evening classes.

Contact us for details of future dates.

How Does It Work?

Anyone who is 12-16 years old and lives in Edinburgh can join.

Everyone is invited to book onto the Introductory Phase where individuals enjoy sessions that work on fundamental skills and techniques. During these sessions you are assessed on your enthusiasm and commitment to the project.

Individuals who genuinely want to learn are then invited onto the Development Phase where you can receive higher level

coaching and advanced trips.

What Is Expected Of You?

How Much Is It?

The sessions are subsidised and normally cost only £5 per session including equipment hire, transport and instructors.

All evening classes and social events are free.
