Cricket

The City of Edinburgh Children & Families Department has now been working in partnership with the Cricket Scotland for the last 3 years. The partnership develops activities for all ages organised to encourage participation and interest in the game, not only in player participation but also in areas such as coaching and umpiring.  The cricket programme looks to develop links between schools and local cricket clubs whilst offering an Academy programme for those Cricketers from schools who show talent and potential.

Some of the programmes on offer include:

Kwik Cricket

Cricketers

Kwik cricket is a soft ball scaled down version of cricket played by beginners.  This fast and fun alternative to hard ball cricket in used in our primary school programmes. 

Lothian Schools Squads

Cricket players

The City of Edinburgh Council run 3 cricket teams at u13, u15 and u17 age groups.  The players are selected from state schools City wide and play matches against Independent Schools in Edinburgh and other Local Authorities.

Edinburgh Schools Sports Academy

Sports Academy

The Sports Academy is a training and support programme designed to assist talented pupils reach their sporting potential.   The Cricket Academy currently has 8 candidates 2 of which are playing at International standard.  More information can be seen on the link to the Sports Academy.

Holiday Programmes

Cricket Scotland

The Cricket camps are run in conjunction with Cricket Scotland during Easter and Summer, information can be accessed on the Cricket Scotland website.

Coach education

There are 5 different levels for the development of cricket coaches:
